Life is about the journey, not the destination. How many times have you heard that old adage?
It is true though. There is so much more enjoyment to be had in a journey rather than just in getting to the destination. More interest in the processes behind a science experiment than just the reaction in the end. More excitement in the build up to a kiss than in the actual kiss. More savouring of a meal when you smell it simmering on the stove first. More appreciation of beauty in a flower as you watch it slowly bloom more and more each day.
If we stopped to enjoy, savour and appreciate what is right in front of us in any given moment, truly live in the moments we are given then surely we will get more out of our lives? I know I, for one, get much more out of my life when I give it the respect it deserves.
Just like we give our family, friends and work our time we ought to give ourselves time. We all deserve the best from ourselves but not all of us treat ourselves the way we expect others to treat us. And why not? Why don’t we lavish ourselves in the same spoils we give others? Why do we spend our lives waiting for another to give us what we can pretty much give ourselves? Why do we stew on the things we don’t have rather than be grateful for the things we do have?
You have life. Beauty is all around you and you are beautiful. You are enough. You deserve to treat yourself as you would for the most cherished person in your life. And you never know, you may just enjoy the process of watching yourself beginning to bloom.
